Charleston: a really big A’ tree

Jon suggested we go to this tree in Charleston that is the oldest tree east of the Mississippi. It is so massive, so beautiful, so remarkable and so magical that I talked about it nonstop for the rest of my life. That is why I am posting so many pictures. It is my favorite tree I’ve ever met and the only tree I know that appears to grow side-ways.

If it’s ok with South Carolina, we’re going to build a house on top of it. It is the most perfet tree house tree, and I don’t even think it is trying to. (below is proof that Jake actually came with me to SC)

I have this awesome idea that next time I go to Charleston I’m going to bring some fairy wings and have Jake take a million pictures of me all up on the tree’s grill doing random fairy stuff. Then I’ll take the pictures to show the Pip and I’ll tell her it’s a house plant. And that I got a side job doing some fairy work.

I mean, every angle of this tree is beastly.

Guess what, this is Jon.

After we picked up Kat from work (Hooray!) we went to dinner at Hominy Grill where I had the most amazing tomato pudding (it was actually part of Jon’s dinner, oops) that I am going to spend my lifetime trying to duplicate.

Then we wandered around the beautiful downtown neighborhoods and cooled off in this fountain.

I could live in Charleston. It’s definitely my top 5 favorite US cities.

I found your blob through CJane’s, and I have to tell you how much I admire you! And not just because you got in that fountain…I stayed in the hotel behind you for my one year anniversary with my husband and thought about doing that every. single. day. Seriously jealous you had the guts to do it!

Give me all your clothes! And then do my hair. I don’t know you but I’m living in New York right now and I stalk your blog. Your eloquence is refreshing and does a lot to dispel the ‘hairdresser’ stereotype. Keep it coming!

Found you through cjane. Your family is amazing. I love the name piper. It is actually on my list of names I would love to use–if I ever had a little girl. But seeing as I have 3 boys–my chances are slim for that ever happening. Anyways, I lived in Charleston for 5 years and loved it. If you go back and ever need more insider tips–I’d be happy to share. Now I live about an hour and a half away and I long for the beach everyday. Glad you enjoyed some southern summer charm. Love your blog.

The Angel Oak tree on John’s Island! It’s beautiful.

My husband is from Charleston; born there and raised on James Island in a house built along the banks of Ellis Creek. Now we have a nephew named Ellis, whom we call Creek Boy, and one of John’s brothers is a dentist in Charleston like your friend.

We live in Greenville, South Carolina, with our three children, Archie, Kit and Jack. Six-year-old Archie has Down syndrome, had a heart defect and also had leukemia.

I found your blog through CJane and have been here every day since, soaking up your every word. Your family inspires me. I wish I could give the Pip a hug. She’s adorable, and your beautiful, and I run like Jake and you do. You ARE rocking it!

I too landed here from cjane, and spent practically the whole weekend immersed in your blog – only to come up for air and see that you were in Charleston (where I live!) all the while I was reading. Weird. And fun. I’m glad you had a fun time here, and please know that I will be praying for you and your inspirational little Pip.

Hi Reagan – I discovered your blob through CJane, who I found through Nie Nie, who I found through A Cup of Jo, and WOW I spend too much time on the internet. Anyhow, I’ve enjoyed browsing through your archives and your daughter is an absolute cutie pie! Just want to reach through the screen and give her a hug! I have someone with special needs in my family so I really have taken an interest in your point of view. I have to admit I have been fearful of having a baby with special needs because of the challenges I have witnessed and not knowing if I could be strong enough. But I see how much you love your daughter and it helps me realize it’s just that – a *challenge*. I don’t mean to presume to know anything about your life but I really do admire your (and your husband’s) love and dedication to your daughter. Oh and P.S. – you are so super stylish, I saw a post where you had lime green nailpolish and I had to go buy it. :-)
