Piper Jane has become very curious with all of her equipment lately. She has gotten especially good at moving herself around with her tubes and it kind of surprises me when she untangles them on her own. Something she has started doing, is pulling out her trach. She has done this a few times in the last few months, and if any of you are familiar with trach care, you know this is very serious. She is such a stinky stinker! She rolls with laughter every time she pulls at it and loves to see us panic to make sure it is secure. Last week, Jake got a phone call that she had again gotten it all the way out, and then desatted immediately. There isn’t much we can do now that she is so strong and so curious. She is too naughty for her own good.
Anyway, the point of me telling you all that, is because yesterday when she was at school, she wanted to play with her vent to whole time! So I took some pictures. Her vent is probably in the majority of her pictures, it’s just in the back. We have a love/hate relationship with her vent. We hate you vent, but thanks for making it so our Pip can breathe! Love ya!
In case you were wondering, the bottom picture is my favorite. I like how she is lovingly smiling at venty.

Your Pippy is sweet and beautiful – thank you for sharing her.
Oh! I do so love your Pippy! She is the bright spot of my day!
Oh, yes, I can definitely see the love-hate relationship you have with venty! Sending prayers right now that Miss Pippy will not bother Mr. Venty. Hugs to you, you sweet mom.
Hahaha! The 3rd one is my fave too! Her expressions are the best, ever. Also, I can’t believe I never said before how freakin’ awesomely you dress her. I shop constantly and she still has a way more tits wardrobe than I do. (P.S. tits means cool, and not boobs. I know you can make that a thing, and you totally should)
Oh no! I was wondering about that. My 15-month-old grandson has a reach of about 20 feet, it seems sometimes, and is a fast little booger. I can’t imagine him leaving a venty alone for a minute. Gosh! What a worry that must be!
Hello! I think my daughter and I are stalking your blog (but not in a psycho way!) My lil girl is 6, and loves to see the pics of your pip. She prays for her alot, and asks all the time if new pics are up. We think she is amazing, and she has taught my girl to be more appreciative in her own young life, and has humbled us all with her strength and determination. What a true blessing she is!
How do you resist those big blue eyes!! I am sure she loves having some control over things when she pulls that trach out and watches everybody scramble!
Hmm…I’m reading Pip’s look in that last picture as naughty!
Piper Jane in that plaid dress with the sneakers = cutest ever. Fingers crossed that the trach scares are a fleeting thing.
What a face! Good venty, keeping our Pippy breathing. Love to the venty!
that bottom one is adorable. pip might have the best wardrobe ever
I think naughty children are significantly cuter than boring, obedient, straightlaced ones. Wicked-awesome ponytails and colorful checkered dresses seal the deal. Cutest.Pip.Eva.
I agree, you dress your sweet little Pip sooo cute!! She’s got my wardrobe beat, hands down! Love that last photo–that sweet but impish little grin. Sort of like she’s saying “Okay, Venty, you aren’t so bad. We can call a truce if you want–for NOW! LOL” I STILL love that post you guys did with Pippy laying on you and snuggling while you were on the floor. That lil Pip of yours cracks me up and she is SUCH an inspiration–as are you and Jake! Hugs
You talk of hard things with such a light heart — such talent you have. Oh goodness, sats going down is so scary!
I had a daughter who lived on a vent, too. She lived to be almost four months before she flew home to heaven. There are so many necessary evils in the medical world! I’m sure you’ve experienced quite a spectrum of those evil things.
(Been reading your blog for a few weeks now. Love it! Love your hair one, too. That flat iron tutorial has made me way more sexier.)
Love love love the sneakers and the “I heart you, venty” smile.
This is so funny/interesting to me. I have a kid in my class with a trach (no vent) and apparently around Piper’s age he pulled his trach out quite a bit too. I’m so glad I wasn’t his teacher then! Scary scary! He’s 7 now and mostly leaves it alone (has since at least 5 when I started teaching him). Those kids and their developmental stages…
I love how in the last picture Pip is all, Hey, Venty, how are you?
Aw Man!!!

This is my Friend Venty, the Wind Beneath My Wings.
We have rough patches that worry me, but it’s all good when it’s good. We have jokes together that even make my friends laugh, and secrets are always safe…. !!!
Venty is my CREW.
Peace,
Piper-J

Rocking my world, once again.
Reags, you are SO positive. I love it.
This little Pippy Chick, mannnnn. Does she just have my number or what. Sheesh.
BTW I look after a my 2yr old niece while mummy works and after only a one time visit to Reagan’s Blob Hooray, “Pi, Pi, Pi” is what she asks for. Your Little Charmer is just building this massive fanclub you realise?! <3
She is darling – thanks for the new pics!!!
i love her. i love the pink decoration in her hair matches the little pink square in her plaid. i love that you put a soft white shirt under her dress to keep her cozy. i love that you call her a baby bird and “pip” actually means to break through an eggshell in hatching and a chirp or a peep that a chick or baby bird makes. i’ve said it before; she’s perfection.
Thank heavens for modern technology! And how amazing is it that Piper is so strong? We have a little 1.5 year old that also gets a kick watching us panic over his potentially life threatening, shenanigans. Kids these days!
Referring to Sarah Kate’s comments: Our family is officially part of the ‘massive fanclub’ of Piper Jane and YOU. Know that we’re cheering you on over here in WA. HOORAY!:)
your little miss piper is just so freaking adorable. First started reading your blog when cjane had you guest post and I’m totally hooked because 1) she is so darn cute 2) your little family is a complete and total inspiration to me.
My little guy lived in the hospital the first 5 months of his life, much of that spent with his own “venty”. It seemed like an eternity to me and I can’t even imagine how much more you have all been though and your strength and determination shine through each of your posts.
I’m also a nurse and have taken care of a lot of little kids in their homes with trachs and vents and I remember the constant worry of decannulation – seems like most kids go through a phase of that. those pictures of her looking at her vent are just way.too.cute!!!
Love the outie with the shoes!
I’m glad you’re back. I’ve been checkin’ in for a little Piper Piper Vent Swiper.
Please explain the medical appliances and how they work. Does the trache tube go into her little throat? Will they be able to eventually remove it? What is desat?
I’m holding my breath for the delicate, minute nestling!
I love your little sweet munchkin Pippy! I cannot get enough of her! Best wishes and thanks for sharing your family’s story! xoxoxo
What a total dollbaby!!! Little Pip is really & truly too adorable for words! I love seeing her photos and hearing about her adventures!
Reagan, that Pip is the cutest Pippy ever! You can tell from your writing and photos that Piper Jane is one spunky gal, small but mighty! I love the way you capture her expressions and her fiesty personality. And the love shines through it all.
Ahh! I just got caught up on your blog. (I’m so far behind!) Piper walking! Are you kidding me?!? Is there anything cuter? We need to meet that little lady and soon. Can we have a playdate? I think Audrie and Piper would have a good ol’ time. And you were on CJane – so so cool, excellent work. And did you you watch the SYTYCD finale? (I assume yes) Oh gosh, I’m so glad Lauren won. And how was card club? And clearly we need to talk in real life. And maybe this should be an email. I hope I see your face in a few hours.
she looks just like you in the hat!!!
