Round two of formspring. (kids and shoes and clothes and stuff)

Where do you get Piper Jane’s shoes? and clothes?
I get most of Piper’s shoes at Seekairun.com and piperlime.com
Her clothes are mostly from Target, Old Navy, Etsy, thrift shops, American Apparel, H&M, Polarn O. Pyret and smallconcept.com. Also random boutiques here in New York.

Do you and Jake want more kids?
We’re not really sure. There are times that I think we will, there are times that we can’t decide and there are times where I think about how hard my pregnancy/delivery was and I never want to risk going there again. I don’t know. But I would say, probably yes. There are a lot of things to factor in. Like how will I have time to spend with Piper? Also, maybe Piper will get jeal of another baby in my lap and completely lose her ****.

There is also genetic testing and the risk of having more sick kids. No one knows what to expect for any future pregnancies (although they think it’s probably safe), but the thought alone stresses me out. Not to mention I don’t know that I could deal with the questions for the first few months. Questions that I would have myself and questions that others might ask. Scary.

If I decide to, it will be because it feels right!

Have you ever thought about writing a book?
I haven’t! I don’t know, it’s just has never really crossed my mind. I’d be open to it, though. Hooray.

Can Piper Talk?
No. When Piper Jane was 3 months old and we were having the pre-surgery consultation with her ENT, he warned us that speech delay is one of the biggest side-effects for children with trachs. If she can get off the ventilator, she’ll be able to have a speech valve put on that can allow her to talk. The trach blocks her vocal cords for the most part, but if she contorts a little, she can get a leak from the vent and squeeze some squeaks out. Just like the little pipsqueak that she is.

How do you pronounce Pip?
Someone asked in a comment if it was like “Sip”. Yes! It’s like Sip! And pippy is like sippy! Naming Piper-Piper was basically the best decision I ever made. She has more nicknames than you can dance a jig with. Anything with a ”P” is a candidate. PIPsqueak, P-body, Pippin, Pipsey, Pippet, Pipster….A million. Pip, Pip, Hooray!

How did you come up with the name Piper Jane?
I heard the name Piper when I was in high school from the TV show “charmed”. I was flipping through the channels and didn’t actually watch that show, but just caught enough of to hear the name. I never forgot it. When I was pregnant I told my mom I like that name and she told me about the actress, Piper Laurie, and I looked her up. I named my daughter after her. She is so beautiful and that name is just spunk-city. I was still throwing around names up until Pip was born, but after she came (and was rushed out of the room before I got to see her) my doctor peeked around the curtain and asked what her name was. I told her Piper Jane and it just happened to come right out of my mouth like it was never a question. My doctor said “I like it! It’s upbeat!”, which is exactly the kind of name Piper needed. When Jake arrived at the hospital I was in the recovery room and sheepishly confessed that I had accidentally named our child without him, but that her middle name was after his sister, Sarah Jane. He was happy and I was happy and pip was happy and our family was happy. It’s like this, every once in a while you do something so dang smart, and on May 21st 2007, I did something dang smart…

What is the next weird meal you’ll make for dinner? What other weird food have you made?
I don’t really know. It will most definitely have a superfluous amount of cheese smothered in every nook of it though. -Other weird food I’ve made is the burger melt (look it up in my June 2010 archives)…and when Jake and I were first married I’d make him crazy food that we had on hand. Like Pop tarts and Ramen Noodles together.

Where are 3 places you shop for clothes?
Modcloth.com, Urban outfitters and Anthropologie. Can I throw in Madewell too?

What is your tattoo of?
It’s a cute little flower on my foot. I think it’s pretty, and I like where it is, but I wish I had put some thought into it, being that it is a permanent thing on my body. I’m not anti tattoos, but I never really thought about getting one. When I was 20 my friend asked me to go with her to get her tattoo touched up, and I ended up getting one out of no where. Basically my flower-pants-tat was a total impulse. If I could redo it, I’d probably get my favorite music lyrics or a Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich. PB and J are my two loves. (Piper Breinholt and Jake).

I’ll answer some more questions pretty soon!

*I’m addicted to formspring. I love the questions I’m getting. I’ll call Jake and be like “Jake some-one’s question was “Your husband is Hot” and that is all they said! and then we laugh and laugh! And then some of the questions I can tell are from my family or friends and those are awesome too. So many of you are the funniest people ever and I will just laugh out loud (I don’t write LOL because for some reason I always think it’s a lie. If you write LOL to me I automatically assume that you didn’t really laugh out loud. I don’t know why…) at what I’m reading and then look crazy for laughing out loud in a public place by myself.

Also, really, the longer questions and statements are getting cut off like I said before. So if I don’t respond, it is most likely that I don’t know what your whole question is…

Thanks for the questions guys. It has been really fun!

    You’re so cute! I’ve loved reading these Q & A’s! :)

Awesome post. I was at the store today with the kiddos and found some awesome Crayola markers called “pipsqueaks”. Thought you might like to know. They were, of course, awfully cute!

Love the formspring q and a’s! As for the “awkward” and insensitive questions…..don’t even read them past the first offensive word. People are so rude sometimes……I don’t think most of them really mean it, but some of them just judge people and want them to know it. Who cares what THEY think??? Piper is the luckiest girl alive to have you and Jake as parents. God bless all of you!!

I found you like many others through CJane.. I am addicted forsure.. you have explained Pip’s diagnosis perfectly and thoughtfully, I admire your courage and determination.. I too had a little one born with many aweful complicated health issues, and we never did take him home but I’m here to tell you we DID have another baby and she was completely healthy (we also had EVERY test known to man before conciving and during pregnancy.. so yea we were WAY scard).. the dr’s also told us it was pretty rare for the lightning to strike twice but I just wanted to let you know (i hope you already do) that EVERYTHING you are feeling about having another is COMPLETELY normal and boy do I remember the scary feeling.. I didn’t have the added stress of having to divide my time with pip in a far away hosp so I give you great credit for thinking everything through..
    i’m rambling i’m sorry
i’m in total awwwwh of you!!!
hugs to you and your hubby and pip!

Pip is just adorable. I think you have a wonderful loving family. It’s not the standard everyday family, but it’s a loving beautiful family. I can see the love you and Jake have for Piper in every picture. I love your blog. Hope Piper continues to do well and that someday she will be off the vent. Have a great week and weekend.

When my roommate and I DO actually laugh out loud, we don’t use the LOL either… its overused! But we will write LLOL (literally laughing out loud). It seems to get our point across better :) (Sidenote: you, Jake, and especially Piper are an inspiration!)

Reagan, thanks so much for telling us more about your little Piper! We are interested in her little life, and it is so generous of you to share more about her. It just helps us admire her and you all the more! : )

  • Comment from Andrea

I confess I am really only laughing out loud about 20% of the time that I use LOL. Now I’m going to feel like a fraud every time I use it. Oh well, it was getting out of hand anyway.
Thanks again for answering so many questions, especially for clearing up the Pip=Sip question, I wondered the same thing.

They have inline speaking valves you can use with a vent…but I am sure the speech pathologist who works with Piper knows that! http://www.passy-muir.com. I have used them with pediatric vent patients…although of course I don’t know all of pipers background I would ask to try it. She would have to get used it little by little so she doesn’t get distressed…thanks for sharing your thoughts today!!

this is pretty fun. i knew our daughters were close in age! (mine was born on May 20th, 2007) i’m loving these questions and answers!

  • Love all the Q&A! And I do love Pip’s name, too, and all the fun nicknames that come with it. Whenever I contemplate kids’ names, that’s the first thing I run through–what would we call her? My name “Carmen” doesn’t provide very much room for creativity!

Well, maybe not entirely random. Because I remember reading about you + your little Pip a long time ago. Like a really long time ago. But I don’t remember HOW I stumbled upon you in the blogsphere. But we have SOME sort of connection in internet land, which makes us not entirely strangers, no? Hmm.

Read your CJane post (& far too many archives, oops) & think that, um, you’re awesome. And so is Miss Piper Jane. And I should stop complaining about my ribs. Even though I might need new ones in a few weeks.

    The end.

The three of you are amazing! That’s all I’m saying about that. Anywho, have you tried sunglasses on Piper?

You and your family are amazing. Truly. Thank you for sharing your lives and your Pip with all of us Interwebbers. You help me to appreciate my little family so much more. You Breinholts are being a blessing to more people than you know. For serious.

Also, love the PB&J tattoo idea. So creative and adorable!

I am glad it is Pip like Sip because at this point I don’t think I could stop thinking of her as Pip :) And I love the little varations you use of her name. Pipture being a fave.

Thanks for sharing where you shop! Do you know about shopruche.com? I found it the other day through a link on Nie’s blog. Good grief, I want just about everything they have!

You are so lucky to have a way to answer everyone’s questions :) A friend of mine suggested printing up business cards and passing them out – funny!

Reagan, you are one of the bravest mom’s I know. I have a special needs 8 year old and can relate to everything you say and feel. You have been such an inspiration to me as a mom and strong woman. Keep up the out-of-this world love you have for Pip because they are all truly God’s angels. Pip is so lucky to have both of you!!

I sort of feel like Lola in this episode of Charlie and Lola I saw yesterday, where she is skipping around saying,”Lucky, Lucky, Lucky me.” Lucky to have the middle name Jane, thanks mom, and lucky to have a gem of a niece middle named after me, thanks Reag. Next time I see PJ we will for sure exchange a high five and maybe a secret handshake, or tap, only for girls with the middle name Jane.

    Reagan,

You write in such a way that I feel like we are having a conversation. It is refreshing!

Thank you for sharing your lives with so many…

And… I feel exactly the same way about LOL… really, it should be LQTM (laughing quietly to myself) and THAT’s even pushing it… :)
