Running evaluation: Booyah.

At the beginning of this week, I decided I needed to, no had to, follow my marathon training program with 100%.

I did it, booyah.

Running has never been harder for me and I have been so worried about this marathon. I still have a while to prepare, but I’m running slower by about a whole minute per mile, and the long runs just aren’t coming to me as easily as they used to. I think this is mostly because of the extra 5-7 pounds I gained last year eating all the sweets that I ever looked at. (I know I’m not fat, but as an athlete, it’s hard to perform well with any extra weight. I consider myself very fortunate to be healthy enough to be so active.)

I’m really proud of this week, it was hard! I had a 14 mile run, a 7m, a 4m, an 8m and a 6m. I ran over 39 miles this week! I really am very pleased with my hard work, and I am starting to notice my love for running regaining a little. Slowly.

If you look close at the picture, you’ll notice I’m supposed to run 16 miles tomorrow (I might use Sunday as an excuse) and also that I’m almost half way done with my training! I have never trained this long for a marathon, but because it is the New York City marathon, and the course is very challenging (and I’m not in my best of shape), I decided I needed the extra time to condition. My first marathon I trained for in 16 weeks, and my second I trained for in 11 weeks.

Enough of my running.  bye!

I admire you so much for attempting this. Running is out of the question for me but I love walking. But then, I’m 53 and a grandma. It’s hard to picture you 5-7 pounds thinner. You sure about that? LOLOL Love to that little Pip 2day.

Your running amazes me! Not just how far you go but how you find time for it! I have no excuse on the time part, I just like to be lazy after work. I’ve only ever ran like 3 1/2 miles all at once, I can’t imagine your runs! I know you’re an athlete and hold yourself to a higher standard, but seriously you should be very proud!

    HI REAGAN, HOORAY!

(I always think of your name as Reagan, Hooray! because of your frequent use of the word. I love it.)

Anyway, I’m the crazy girl who kind of mauled you at the Kirtsy party the other night. I thought I ought to formally introduce myself to you so you can maybe not think I was so lame (then again, maybe this is only hurting my cause).

Whatever. Just thought you should know I think you’re lovely and I’m a loyal reader. : )

And also, I was in love with your super-awesome vintage outfit. What a doll you are!

About to start my Training for my first half! Here’s to you and your 3rd full marathon! It is hard to get back int groove again – I hear ya. Different distance but the feelings are the same.

I love to jog but never considered actually becoming a runner and doing marathons. You’ve inspired me to step up my game a bit and see what I’m actually capable of–thanks!

Do you do the longer training runs on a treadmill?

  • Comment from Reagan

@Camille: i loved meeting you! You were the cutest ever! thanks for coming up to say hi!

  • Comment from Reagan

@Michelle Z.: hey, I actually don’t do any running on a treadmill. Mostly because we don’t have gym memberships and also because it is so boring to be on one for more than 25 minutes (in my opinion!).

Booyah! I’m psyching myself up for a long run today as part of my training for my first ever half marathon, and this post definitely helps! Well done!

Girl I feel your pain!! I am starting my half marathon training this week. It’s my second, and I hear you on the weight gain. Killer. Kudos to you for doing the NY marathon!
I am still trying to convince myself that running 13.1 miles is a good idea never mind 26.2.

Where do you run in NYC? I live in the west and run on nearly endless country roads past fields of oats and alfalfa and pastures with horses that cheer me on with their soft little “whi-i-i-in-n-n-nies” when I pass. I might meet 3 or 4 cars on a 5-mile loop and when I do meet the rare car it’s likely someone I know. Having never been in your neck of the woods, I’m wondering what your runs are like.

Oy. Just thinking about all that running is making me tired. I feel quite ambitious in preparing for a 5k in two weeks! ;-)

I love reading about your little PJ, BTW. Your devotion to her is so uplifting – you two are good for my heart! <3

hey, that’s awesome! you’ll do great.

what program/website are you using to track your program? i would love to use it.

I am trying to follow the couch to 5k trainer so that I can eventually move up to a 10k, then half marathon, then full, then triathalon. The problem is that I HATE running. I swam competitively for 15 years and my body just doesn’t feel like it’s built for running. It hurts me. It jars me, ya know? I want to conquer my dislike for it and find my running ‘groove’ but it’s not coming to me. :( I would much rather be in the pool or on a bike.

    Hi Reagan,

I have started following you and little miss Pip through c. Jane. I love your hair advice and I because I am a nurse that cares for children who have cancer I can relate a bit to hospital life.

I also am a runner. What program or website do you use to track your running?

Thanks for sharing your life with us. I learn much from you.

    Love, Emily.
