So, how obvious is it that I’m nearly obsessed with Alexa Chung? She is definitely my one and only girl crush, and basically the coolest person ever. I have written about her on Hairdresser on Fire, and I have a folder saved in my laptop with pretty images of her for inspiration. She is just brilliant when it comes to her sense of style, she is hilarious and just all around a cool chick. I can’t help but love her. So, in January when it was announced she was going to design a fall line for Madewell, I was really excited. It’s Fashion Week here in NYC and with that comes Fashion Night Out. I made sure to go to the Madewell party since Alexa’s line was launching the next day, I knew she’d be there. Success! Look who I met!
I didn’t end up talking to her as much as I’d have liked to. But honestly, I just didn’t want to sound a) crazy, or b) like everyone else she meets. So, I figured it was best to thank her for taking a picture with me, compliment her beautiful collection and be on my way to the fitting rooms with armfuls of clothes. I didn’t end up buying anything that night, because it was a zoo in there! I was one of the crazies waiting in line to be the first in the store, so it really was total mayhem. I went back the next day and picked up this beautiful dress that Rachel Bilson is sporting in this picture.
Confession: this dress cost more than my wedding dress. But Jake knew how excited I was for this event, and was really awesome about letting me buy it. I absolutely adore it and can’t wait to wear it a million different ways.
So, even though I didn’t buy anything until the next day, I did get a few gifts from Alexa for showing up to her party…
This tote included:
~A cd from the band “The Like”, which I’ve been meaning to buy. I read an article in Nylon about them a few months ago and I’ve been so interested in them. One of the girls in the band is named Tennessee! That’s her NAME! Rad, right?
~A coupon for 20% off at Madewell. Not including her collection, haha.
~A clutch tote
~A ribbon necklace that says “better than a poke in the eye”
~Glasses shaped like Martini glasses, hahaha
It also came with a little note from Alexa saying this….
These are backwards. The bottom note I got from the tote at the party, the top note I got when I bought my tea dress the next day. My little bracelet says “hello, you look pretty!”.
The bottom note is basically hilarious and all weekend Jake and I have been quoting “yeah. martini glasses” in a British accent to each other.
I’m just a little bit on cloud 9. Don’t be jeal!
After that, I went back to the party Jake was working at a few blocks over. I met a few people who read my blob hooray, hooray! Thanks for saying hi!
We were also invited to the Bottega Veneta party where Rosario Dawson was hosting, but we didn’t make it out of soho in time. I was a little bummed out, but it was probably a good thing I didn’t get home too late, because Leslie and I ran 20 miles at 6 on Saturday morning. It was a busy weekend!
Oh yeah, after leaving the Burton party in Soho, Jake and I were walking up Mercer and saw Pharell Williams and Kanye West. For some reason I grabbed Pharell’s hand out of no where and said hi. It was weird of me, I admit it. But Kanye, that was another story. He was full on being chased by a mob of screaming people. I felt bad for the guy. Also he was right in front of me, and all I could think was, “dang, Kanye is short.” Seriously though, after living in New York for almost 6 years, I have seen a lot of famous people, it is just bound to happen now and then. The thing is, I have never in my life seen a mob of screaming people chasing someone like that. I couldn’t stop thinking about it!
So, the moral of the story is that I love fashion night out, very much. Remember last year?
I think I just rambled a little. But seriously, it was a really busy weekend!
Also, read what I wished I would have said to Alexa here.

Ah…super jeal of your martini glasses! Heehee!
Sounds like you had a GREAT weekend. I also totally dig Alexa Chung. She seems really down-to-earth! And enjoy that dress! It looks like it will be really versatile. Can’t wait to see how you put it all together! Hugs to you, Jake, and P.Jane!
Oh, I am so happy for you, Reagan. So totally cool that you got to meet someone you admire so much!
I love the dress!!!! I must shop with you next time I am in NYC.
Screaming crowds are an experience. I have been a few film locals with my son in Europe and Canada and the fans of people chasing Brad Pitt or the entire Twilight cast, not to mention the cameras every where is daunting to me. It makes me want to hide and stay away from the set.
I love the dress and can imagine all kinds of ways to wear it.

So last night my bf and I were laying side by side on the couch and I was shoving my favorite blogs in his face and of course yours and Jake’s came up. (Ironically, my bf’s name is also Jake…isn’t it such a sexy/handsome name?) I wanted to show him Jake’s photography, your awesome little family (cute Pip), one of my fav blobs, etc. and my JAW dropped to the flippin’ GROUND when I saw your most recent post. I think he had to pick it up for me. And then we died laughing at the martini sunnies because we were JUST in a store trying those on and I said they were pretty rad. And now, of course, I think I shall get a pair!
Can’t wait to see how you wear the dress!
p.s. Feel free to tell Jake that when “my” Jake saw your family picture at the top he said, “Now that dude has killer style.” pssst…I’m trying to groom him into stepping it up a notch with some punk meets prep style. Baby steps…
Happy Monday!
Awesome. All of it. Hooray for your new dress! Great color choice.
Check out The Like’s cover of Elvis Costello’s “You Belong to Me” (if you haven’t already). Hearing that song was when I knew I *loved* The Like.
Oh…I wanted the skirt she had on….it is sold out…and I want it in a bad way!!! BUMMER!!!
I think just about everything cost more than MY wedding dress…but that’s because it was made of shattered dreams!! just kidding. i was just pregnant. and it was really cheap
cute dress.
It looks like you two could be best friends!
Hooray!!!!! So good to meet you and Jake at Burton on Friday night. My girlfriend went there to check out “all the hot guys” and I was grumbling about having to stand in line and hunt her down, UNTIL I spotted YOU. What a trip. You are a doll & I was thrilled to meet you in person. I hope the rest of your fashion week is fun and exciting. All my love to the Pip. And, I must say that you look fab in your Martini glasses. xxoo
My boyfriend went to school with Alexa Chung. We went and looked around his old school the other day, so I looked around her school. But not in a creepy way!
Luckiest duckiest lucky duck. She is so COOL.
Very cute dress! I bet it looks better on you than on Rachel Bilson. I love her but she is way too skinny!
It makes me sad to look at her- she used to be so cute and healthy!
