Last night we did a Christmas tree tour around the city. We started out in DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) in Brooklyn. It was an amazing thing to be the only people there, such a rarity anywhere in this city. So we didn’t feel so dangerous whipping out some sparklers and doing some light painting.
In this picture, Sam, Anna and I running around the tree with our sparklers.
In this one, I made an angel with an LED light. (you can kind of see my legs behind the angel, hhaha)
Sam made a star on top of the tree at South Street Sea Port (you can see his ghost face on the right, haha)
Jake wrote Piper at the New York Stock Exchange tree
Anna wrote “I love NY” at the New York Stock Exchange tree
Sam made a Christmas tree at the Washington Sq park tree
no light painting at Rockefeller center tree, way too many people.
Me and Anna. I like to say “prune” instead of “cheese” when we take pictures because then you get a nice pout..not really. I’ve never successfully done it without laughing.
Bryant Park tree. No painting there either. too many ice skaters and tourists.
So, I’m no photographer, but I know that Jake slowed down the shutter speed to like 30 seconds for each shot, and that is why we were able to draw with lights and not show up ourselves in the pictures. It was so fun, even though I said a hundred cusses about how cold it was.
Ok. Bye! Merry Christmas Eve!
(ps a little christmas charity to warm your heart…when we were at the tree in Brooklyn, there was a wool coat on a bench with a sign that said “warm coat, please take”. How sweet right? It was a really nice men’s pea coat that was heavy and warm and expensive. I would have melted except that it was like half a degree. I really hope that it has gone to someone who really needed it.)

Loved the Christmas light tour and your light writing! Thanks for sharing! I don’t do well in the cold either, so I would have been in suffering mode right there along side of you! Merry Christmas to you, Jake, and Piper. Can’t wait to see the Pippy Christmas pics. : )
Oops. Realized it was a Christmas TREE tour, not actually a Christmas light tour. Had to make that correction. Yep, that’s how I am. Hee hee
I LOVED all these photos. So creative and fun! Hey- I just watched the “P.J. laughs her vent off video” but I”m going to comment on THIS post b/c I want to make sure you see it (I don’t always check my own “old comments” on my blog consistently).
I wanted to thank you for posting all the photos and videos that you do. Your family seems so “comfortable” in the hospital setting. You make it seem inviting which I’m sure is hard to do!
I know a lot of people who get nervous/uncomfortable in that setting, but your posts give scaredy-cats like us a little more courage!
When my sister had her baby, I was so much more at ease being in the hospital because your blob makes it seem like am ore familiar place. I hope that makes sense. Basically- you rock! Thanks for your fun on honest perspective on life and motherhood!
@ Linda P. I just re-read my comment and am mortified by all my typos! Yep, I’m sort of *that* person, too! Heehee!
A very Merry Christmas to you Breinholts! I hope you have a fantastic time with Piper!
ok, i’m still trying to wrap around how you are drawing with the lights? it’s one of my new missions to figure this out it looks so fun! what sort of led light is this??
Yay! Merry Christmas, Reagan! Give Piper one million Christmas kisses from us, okay? Then make a paper chain for counting down the days until we get to hang out again… you probably won’t even need a whole sheet of paper. So cussing exciting, right?!
woah, the sparkler dumbo tree is ridiculous. so pretty.
Merry Christmas you three!!!
We’ve had Christmas Eve dinner and now are waiting to go the midnight candlelight service at church. It’s all good.
I hope you have lots of pictures of Piper enjoying Chritmas to share.

Merriest of Christmas’!! Love, love the post as always…but the best part today….Anna and I possess the same Target jacket
I am thrilled to discover that someone else has my “mushroom jacket”!!! I thought that I was the only person ever that owned that super cute find from the dirt cheap clearance rack at Target!
Have a fab day with your fantastic family and friends! Thank you for sharing your fun
This is the coolest thing I have ever seen!! So fun and what a good idea to go on our Christmas tree tour! I am def doing that next year!
Merry Christmas night, you beautiful Breinholts! I love the light painting pictures – what a fun, artsy thing to do. I must figure this out ASAP!
I feel so dumb(o) for not knowing what DUMBO meant! I totally pride myself on knowing what all the little acronyms mean. (Is that the right word?) TriBeCa, SoHo, NoHo, NoLita, TriBeCa……Now I know Dumbo, hurray!
I feel like the lamest NYer. Since I peaced out unexpectedly on the 13th and didn’t come back until the 27th I basically missed everything Christmasy. Lame.
Super fun photos. Love the one at Bryant Park.
How fun!!! I love these pictures!
