The fanciest Oscar Party Ever

Amanda Blair proposed and Oscar party and it was all I could think about. We agreed on fancy dresses and fancy food, starting with tacos. Haha, so maybe vegan tacos aren’t all that fancy, but they’re very healthy and they’re very good.

To prepare for the night, I did a quick updo (that I wish I would have gotten a back view photo of) and put on my fanciest dress. Then I followed Jake around holding a glass bottle (Oscar statue), thanking random people. ***when I think something is funny, i beat it to death. i followed jake around for an hour thanking Meryll Streep for mentoring me, my pilates instructor and my hairstylist and my family until finally he begged “Reagan, please stop following me around thanking people with that bottle.”.***

We made chocolate covered strawberries, which I don’t care who you are, those things are dripping with fance…and drank sparkling juices.

Below, me and Amanda Blair and our hard earned Oscar statues.

And in case you wanted a close up of my favorite shoes in my closet. Patent wedges with an ankle strap. They are 2 sizes too big, but that’s what you do at sample sales…buy expensive things for cheap even though they don’t fit.

Did you like the show? I got sick of the King’s Speech winning everything. I hadn’t really seen many of the movies this year, so I didn’t have any idea who would be the winners for the night.

Tell me whose gown was your favorite, ok? I’ll tell you, I liked Mila Kunis, Kate Blanchet and Gwyneth Paltro.

  • We are so fancy! I had SO much fun…we should do fancy parties more often!

Sadly, i did not watch the oscar’s. I am at home with strep throat and spent the better part of my evening with a pounding headache and watching Friends re runs. HOWEVER, with that being said, I’m all caught up on your little blob, and I just watched your “interview.” You are adorable. I love “vlogs” because I like to hear how everyone’s voices sound. Ha. Thanks for brightening what otherwise could have been a pretty crummy day! :) Love the shoes!

    gwyneth looked awwwesome.

I think Michelle Williams and little Hailee Steinfeld deserve a dress shout out. Jennifer Lawrence looked awesome too, but I’m not sure if her dress was fancy enough.
    Love your oscar party pictures!

    Great chocolate smile!!! :)

I say Mila, MIchelle Williams and Hailee Steinfeld were best dressed. She is completely adorable and helped design her own dress which I thought was so cute.

Your outfit is awesome. LOVE the textured tights.

I loved Michelle Williams! She always looks amazing in everything! She is my style icon!

Oh, I see a tat on the top of your footsie, Reagan. What is it, may I ask? Inquiring minds want to know!

Two oh-so-deserving Oscar winners! Congrats, Rachel and Reagan! You two look mahvelous, by the way! Oh, and (psssst–hushed tones here)I AM a little worried about the chocolate-on-the-teeth pic ending up in the tabloids . . . . : D

  • Comment from Linda P.

Augh! That was lame of me. I totally called your friend Amanda by the wrong name in my post above. Very sorry, Amanda. *blushes with shame*

  • Hey Linda, no worries….I always liked the name Rachel a lot and I just might use it ;)

I loved Hailee Steinfield’s dress and hair. She was simply beautiful and age appropriate. Did you notice Matthew McCononaughey’s girlfriend’s gown/hair? Stunning. I also loved Reese’s hair and Jennifer Hudson’s gown.

Gweneth, Kate, Helena Bonham Carter (Okay, you caught me, I didn’t watch.)

What a great idea! That would be so much fun- I missed the oscars, we were traveling back home from a weekend at my mom’s, but I had to check out all the gowns when I got home. I thought so many of them were too ho-hum, but I gasped when I saw Gwyneth Paltrow- she looked amazing! Mila Kunis was my second runner up- she always looks stunning.

  • Comment from Tammy

I loved The King’s Speech so I’m glad it won. I loved Gweneth and Kate’s dresses. I also loved Anne Hathaway’s blue dress. I had an Oscar Party too. I still have my Oscar hair for work.

I loved Sandra Bullock’s and Amy Adam’s gowns (Amy’s really popped with the green jewelry), and I’m with you about Mila and Gwyneth. (Shame about Gwyneth’s vocal performance — did you see the look on her face when the song ended? She was so upset the camera had to cut away.)

Wasn’t the hair amazing? I was loving the Veronica Lake waves and the asymmetrical bobs. Scarlett Johansson’s hair was gorgeous — it makes me want to cut mine off.

Your fancy party looks like it was so much fun, and you girls look smashing! (The choco teeth are a nice touch — is that a Cocoa Browned Butter Brownie I spy in Amanda’s hands?)

One of the highlights of my Oscar evening was when my husband proclaimed, “These Oscars are bo-ring. The Academy Awards were so much better.” (He meant the Golden Globes. I let it slide bc he’s a foreigner, hahahaha.) I agree — it wasn’t the best Oscars telecast. James Franco was much too smug and “I’m too good for this show” for my liking (whether he meant to be that way or not), and I was bummed Banksy didn’t win an Oscar.

  • Comment from Holly

you are the cutest! My fave gown was Cate Blanchet. I also loved how Florence of Florence & the machine sang in a dress that was an exact match to her hair. So pretty.

  • Comment from Bonny Day

You look stunning! I love it! What a wonderful idea. I watched it but didn’t have a cool party. I think Natalie Portman, Halle Berry and Mandy Moore were my faves. Oh yeah and Florence! I agree with Holly that commented above me. haha :)

I am sitting her with my MIL wanting to pay attention to everything she is saying. I happened to pull up your site while she left the room for a sec. When I saw your chocolate strawberry laugh, it totally made me snort and laugh simultaneously when MIL walked back in the room. I couldn’t get out of it without apologizing and telling her I just saw a funny, funny photo. So thanks for the laugh.
Ditto on your dress choices. Gwyneth just looked Ammmazzing (but I have a girl crush on her, so she can really do no wrong.) Loooved Mila’s grecian goddess lavender number and Cate’s Givenchy was really so different, and she looked statuesque. And I thought Anne Hatheway (even though she kinda looks like a Bratz doll) really had some beautiful dresses throughout the night. Loved the blue one towards the end.
PS. You don’t look like you have gained an ounce. You looked delightful–and very humble accepting your Oscar.

  • Comment from Wendy

Your hair looked fabulous, and I really love your fanciest dress. It makes me wish I had the youth and legs to pull off such a garment. :)
My favorite Oscar dresses were Amy Adams, Cate Blanchett, Michelle Williams, and I loved Anne Hathaway’s red dress that she walked the carpet in. I also think little Hailee Steinfeld is adorable and has a great sense of style, especially for someone her age. On the opposite end of the age spectrum, Helen Mirren continues to show the starlets how it’s done.

  • I catered an Oscar party for my son and his roommate, complete with red carpet to enter the house. I had food to represent all 10 movies–it was great. Spending Oscar night with a house full of gay men is the best place to be :) It was fun.

I loved Mila Kunis’ dress the best, definitely. She is so pretty. Anyway I love chocolate covered strawberries and they are absolutely always fancy. Now I am seriously craving some..hmm.

I’ve never commented(but always wanted to – BUT your vocabulary always makes me smile. I commit myself to using ‘fance’ at least ten times today.

Love the party, love the dress (yours)! I have to say though I loved that Kings Speech won everything. As a mother of a sever stutterer this movie hit the nail on the head. ON THE HEAD! The performances were brilliant! If you haven’t seen it you should.
