Piper Jane’s good deed.

It’s Monday morning and Piper Jane and I were all playful and wrestley

Snuggley and tickley

Smiley and silly

When out of no where Pip made a bee-line off my lap heading several feet away and wearing the most concerned look on her face. I looked at her with confusion, she looked up at me with worry, and pointed to her stomach. I looked down and saw that her feeding tube had disconnected and was pumping formula onto the mat. What was an even bigger problem, is that her Mickey wasn’t closed and the formula that had already gone into her belly was coming out rapidly all over her. I hurried and put my finger over it and reattached the feeding tube. Then I wiped her down, changed her clothes and cleaned up what had gotten on the mat.

This happens a lot (It happened Friday but I was the one completely covered and soaking wet), but I have never seen Piper Jane figure it out before the mess happened. Her blanky and her Mama both got out alive without a drop of formula thanks to her. I was so proud that Piper communicated with me what was going on, sometimes I just don’t give her enough credit for how much she really understands!

Resting her chin on her fist is genius. So Olan Mills of her.

Thanks again, my little Pip! Nothing worse than looking like you peed baby formula all over yourself, having to leave your Pip visit early and then having to drive home all sad.

I love reading about your relationship with your adorable little girl. It’s obvious how much you love being a mother.

I am so proud of Miss Piper for letting you know she needed help! That is just great! I love these pictures of you two, the third one, especially.

  • Comment from Christa

How awesome is that? (answer: VERY) Not only is she a good communicator, but she’s such a girl. Given how messy my boys are when they eat, I am pretty sure the impending mess wouldn’t have bothered them.

She is just so Piptacular!!! I love her little poses she does!!!

  • How smart she is! Isn’t it wonderful when our children surprise us with something they’ve observed or learned when we had no idea. :)

  • Comment from Kelly

Wow are you two ever on the same wavelength. Smart little chica!

  • Comment from Vanessa

Yay for Pip! That is wonderful. My Coco has a g-tube/Mic-Key button too, and it has popped out a time or two (or twenty), so I can relate to the crazy formula mess that ensues! I’m sure Piper will continue to amaze you with everything she knows…that you didn’t know, she knew :D

    XO,
    Vanessa

what a smarty she is! maybe she can teach moriah a thing or two… unless moriah just leaves it to look like we peed baby formula on ourselves on purpose. bet she does cause she’s a stinker like that.

  • I love hearing your Pip stories. I am still struggling with having to place mom in a care center, and I can’t tell how reading your Pip stories brightens up my evenings when I come home from visiting with mom.

Pip is one smart little cookie :)

Aw Pip you smart cookie you! ;) I always believe that kids of any sort understand things we never expect them to…even if we never see the acknowledgement of it…Pip was on it today though right? I love it…

i wanted to finally say hello, and not just read in the “lurky shadows,” and let you know that i really enjoyed this post. i know that you have some very unique struggles and joys in your journey through motherhood (and i admire how you’ve handled it all with such grace and perspective), but posts like this remind me of how universal the experience of being a mom truly is. i can’t tell you how many times i’ve thought, “huh… my kid just figured that out… neat!” thanks for sharing.

Reagan – Piper is soooo adorable! I am crazy about her – the Olan Mills pipture is awesome – you can really tell how happy she is when you are with her! I think she is starting to really look like you too!
My daughter is 2 and it’s crazy how much she knows – and I don’t know that she knows. So when she does something new that I didn’t know she could do – I think she is a genius! So fun!! You are a great mother.

  • Comment from Momfish

Piperkinz is one smart cookie buddy. She’s really not of this world though. I feel like she has one foot here and one foot entirely somewhere else, that none of us will probably ever fully understand or see the beauty of. Pip is a special, special girl. :)

  • Comment from Taking Two

oh my goodness… precious. that little precious girl!!! She knew exactly what was going on! And I agree completely with Momfish… that she has one foot here… and one foot somewhere else… so much more aware than we are!!!! She makes my heart sing. And so does your love for her and your family.

Hi – I’ve been reading your blog occasionally for the last year or so, and just wanted to stop by and say how much I enjoy it. Whenever I need cheering up, I come here and read about Piper’s progress and it’s so uplifting. Thank you.

  • Comment from Janice

Wow! That is so awesome. As in, no word good enough for the awesomeness. Those moments of seeing – really seeing – how far your baby has come are really precious. I’m so glad it happened while you were there so you could have one of those moments.
