Yesterday morning we all (everyone from the salon) met up at the MET to see the Alexander McQueen exhibition. Let me just get it out of the way now…it was one of the most beautiful, inspiring mornings of my life. He was just a brilliant artist, more than just fashion, and the exhibit was done perfectly. Everything was displayed to perfection, and they picked the most amazing music to go along with each room. I get cold chills just thinking about it.
One of my favorite parts of the exhibit, was the ethereal hologram of Kate Moss. I couldn’t take my eyes off of it and probably watched it for 20 minutes straight. It might make you cry, it is so beautiful. I found this clip from one of his shows!
If you have time, you should really watch all of his runway shows on youtube. They are all just incredible. He had an artistic vision that was really just one of a kind.
The MET is on the upper east side, so I decided I would walk accross town through the park, since I hadn’t been to Central Park in a couple of weeks. It was a long walk and I mosied along most of the way from columbus circle to 82nd street and 5th ave. It has been raining so much for the last week and a half, that there was lots of moisture in the air, and that wet smell that I love.
Central Park is so beautiful. If you’re visiting I’d say you need almost an entire day to see it. I’ve visited/run the park literally hundreds of times, and there is still so much that I’ve never even noticed. Yesterday I saw a statue of a wolf or something, and I’m pretty dang sure I’d never seen him before.

I think that music is from Schindler’s list….gives me chills! Just amazing. New York is so the place to be. Been there 2x, and can’t wait for another trip! xo
@Ariel: it is from schindler’s list! such a sad but beautiful song.
This made my heart pound really hard. Thank you for sharing it. I have GOT to get to that exhibit. Thanks for the reminder.
I love reading blogs of ladies who live in New York. It’s such a dream of mine to go there, like it seems fantastical and unreal. And then I read these blogs of real people who really live there and I covet. I will admit, I covet.
Alexander McQueen. Ahhhh. You were so smart to move to NY. Everything is there. Great art, cool hair, fashion, pipers, shoes, star sightings, beautiful parks, everything. I am going to go pout in jealousy. Hmph.
Thanks for sharing your beautiful morning with us. I hope the McQueen exhibit is still at the Met at Christmas (?). Oh how I am looking forward to strolling through the park, too. The last time we were there, we made friends with the cutest racoon who was sashaying across the walking path, making his way from the water to a cozy bush. So awesome.
I came across your blog from two different friends: Big Mama and Bridget (Tales of me & husband). Hope this doesn’t freak you out but I just want to tell you I adore you. You have more joy and are more full of life than most moms I know. It’s seen in your eyes in every picture you post. Thank you for inspiring me as a mom. And your hair tutorials? Better than any fashion magazine I’ve ever read. Blessings to you and your beautiful family.
We tried to go to the AM exhibit 2 weekends ago & the line was SO. LONG. So I’ve promised myself that I need to get back there soon (it’s only a 10 minute walk!), but this makes me think that it needs to be very, very soon.
Love Central Park, too. Love the fresh air, love the people watching, love seeing everyone there with friends + family. My favorite spot in the city, hands down.
(Where is the wolf?! I discovered a playground the other week that has great bear statues. Fun.)
i do believe it is a Husky and not a wolf, Balto to be exact. A very famous husky who saved a lot of kids in alaska from dying.
oh, i love central park. sounds like a lovely walk. sending you a big hug, just because. xo
I love the video. I hope to see the exhibit when I am in NYC this summer. I love Central Park.
What did you wear to the exhibit? I’m trying to imagine what one wears when going to view an exhibit of on of the world’s greatest creative designers. He will be long missed.

Oh Reagan, I am so jealous. Manhattan is my favorite city in the planet. I am coming in July and the park is a favorite destination. We are planning a full day indeed because with as many times as I have been t the city I have never been to the meadow, the reservoir or Belvadere Castle. BTE the statue you saw was Balto and you should read this story about this awesome Husky. If memory serves he was an Ididarod dog and left the race to run through the Alaskan wilderness to bring antibiotics to sick children during an influenza epidemic. There is a wonderful children’s movie. Your little Pip Miester would love it. Have a great week celebrating Pip’s super special day!!!
I LOVED the show. SO much.
(I wrote about it here: http://sarahsteinlubrano.wordpress.com/2011/05/14/alexander-mcqueens-references/)
Reagan I’ve stalked your blog for awhile now, and so of course I feel like we are friends. But when I walked past you this very day in central park (I was visiting from Sydney–and loving every minute of NYC) I stalked you for real. Scary!! Sorry. I wanted to say your name but there was no one else around and that tiny shy person inside my head said but what if it’s not her and this poor girl will think your some kind of lunatic. Now I see it was you and I’m full of regret! Your blog is like my favorite kind of movie-lots of laughing and sometimes crying but them more laughing straight away even before the tears are dry. Thank you!
