Trouble Makers

Jen is definitely my partner in crime. Sometimes when we’re hanging out, I get an outrageous idea and propose it to her and she acts like it’s the most genius idea ever. And then she comes back at me with an equally outrageous idea for later. Hanging out with Jen is exciting.

There were so many place to explore in the Boom Boom room, that we were busy all night. Jake and I were separated for a few hours because Jen and I were exploring everything. Jake had seen us trying to climb a wall at one point. He wrote on his blog the following statement. “Reagan was running around with her friends goofing off the entire time. I was waiting to get a call from her that they had been thrown out.”. Hahaha. Jen and I agreed that we were way too tame. We sent a series of texts all day yesterday of all the things we could have done…Including: Flip tables, cry uncontrollably, rub someone’s bald head, accuse a lady of being a man, have a push up contest, switch clothes with each other or moon anyone from the bathroom. Just to name a few.

We went out to this secret outdoor place and we were taking pictures and acting a fool, then people came out and we realized it was the smoking deck! We just kept taking pictures and the people were all laughing at us, then they joined in and were posing us and then asking us to take pictures of them in various angles and positions. The floor was see through glass and you could see all the way to the street. It was trippy, I tell you!

Somehow, it was magic light out there. It was dark dark night-time, and the pictures were coming out with this really cool glow!

It was Jen’s idea to lay down and I don’t think she had any idea of what she started. I’m pretty sure from now on the smoking room will actually be the photo shoot room and everyone will always lay down like this. That is how everyone wanted us to take their pics.

Then we found our own little corner and took pictures there. We took breaks inbetween when trays of delicious treats came. There were mini fruit tarts, crab cakes, rizotto balls, peanut butter and jelly banana bread squares and mini whoopie pies. I basically attacked the guy with the tart trays. I heard he quit the next day.

Jake and Joe are for sure talking about life. Like a couple of old men. Literally, this picture reminds me of every old man I’ve ever known.

I love this photo of a foggy NYC. It’s a little dreamy with the blue tint.

That was my night! I know I made it sound like we got really wild, but all we did was take silly pictures and embarrass Jake and Joe and eat a few too many whoopie pies.

Preview to a very fun night.

Jake and I were invited out to a very fancy party at the top of The Standard Hotel in the Meat Packing District. The Boom Boom Room is probably the fanciest and hardest lounge to get into, and I could not believe we had been invited to a private party up there. So exciting.

I made sure my hair was ultra big, that is the best way to start off the night right. For me at least.

Since the party was starting later, Jake and I ate dinner at the cutest ever restaurant called the Pink Tea Cup. It’s only two blocks away from my salon, and I’ve been wanting to try it out. When we walked in, they told us we could sit where ever we wanted, and I decided to sit at the reallllllly long table. The head of the table was a big arm chair with comfy pillows and I couldn’t resist. So that’s where I sat.

The long table probably seats about 20 people or maybe even more. That’s the other end.

Then the waitress brought me a little folded up napkin and said “this is from the party at the end of the table”. Hahaha. I died. I nodded “yes” and she came over for a chat and we swapped cards. She is a make up artist and we might do some work together.

Then we headed to The Boom Boom Room. All around the Boom Boom Room are windows. You can see a spectacular view from every inch of the place. Ever direction of the city. Amazing! My fanciest of clients told me that I needed to use the bathroom there at least 3 times, because they are the coolest bathrooms in the world. I had heard that before, it’s weird to think they have famous bathrooms, but they really are that cool. Each individual stall has a whole wall that’s a window to the outside. This was my view while I ummm, peed. Sorry, how else do I say it?

And below me was Highline Park! Haha. It’s just so funny to me!

We saw a few celebrities there. My friend has worked with Cedric The Entertainer and she was chatting with him for a bit and he looked at me and said “Well You have a very Taylor Swift thing goin’ on, don’t you?”. Haha.

And I got to see John Leguizamo again. It wasn’t as awkward this time, but I didn’t really have a chance to fix the last time. And I didn’t have time to tell him that I love his side curl from R+J.

Way way way way way more later. The place is so amazing that all we did was act silly and take pictures. Because who knows if I’ll ever go to the BBR again? Probably never, so let’s be real here. I’m not sorry at all for the things I did last night. And a place this fancy lets you do whatever you want.

Piper Jane: Piano Lady

I love Piper Jane and her little Piano. She doesn’t actually play with it that often, unless she is trying to break it of course. But every once in a while she moseys over to it and hammers out some jams like a regular Gaga. If you hate Gaga, think Alicia Keys, Elton John, Billy Joel, you know, all those piano playin’ people.

I bought this pretty little vintage number at one of the million amazing thrift stores when I was in Utah a few months ago. It fits Pippy perfectly. What I love most about these vintage baby doll dresses, is that they are so short. They look so adorable with some ruffly bloomers and bobby socks. Especially on my pip who has legs to be proud of. I heard Elle “the body” Mcphearson is jeal. Don’t be jeal, Elle.

PS, It’s Tuesday and I miss this Pip already! We’ve got lots of fun things to help the week go by quickly though. I’m really lucky to only work 3 days at the salon. I might go crazy if I had to go any longer without seeing this P-nut.

Stories About Birds.

The “stories about birds” line in my header probably seems kind of random since I’ve never explained it. I sometimes get curious comments/emails asking what it means, so I thought I’d explain it real quick-like.

When Jake and I had been dating for a few months, we took a little weekend trip to Boston. It was mid-spring and we were having a fun getaway on our own. It was that time in a new relationship when the other person can do no wrong, and you are just completely smitten. Remember that feeling? Pretty cute to think back on. Anyway, I can’t remember specifically what we were doing, but we were outside goofing off and Jake smiled at me and said “we’re like birds. playing around and flirting, like birds.”.

It stuck. He called me birdie or bird most of the time, and still does but for some weird reason it has now morphed into “gerb” and “gerbie”. Pippy was called “baby bird/birdie” in the first few years of her life, but we don’t really call her that so much anymore. Maybe because she is more like a sneaky monkey or a mischievous little fairy than a delicate little baby bird. Who knows though, her favorite little movie is a 4 minute short film called “For the Birds”. She watches it over and over again, grinning like a little sneak.

Holi.

Great weekend full of beautiful sunshine and lots of running around the city.

The highlight of my weekend activities, was my trek out to Queens with Amanda Blair for the Holi Fest and Phagwah parade. First of all, we drove! Scary! We headed down after Piper’s house and I think altogether we took about 10 parkways/highways/expressways. NYC driving really is just madness. But we made it to deep Queens alive and I had “nothing’s gonna stop us nowwww” in my head the whole way.

Anyway, the Holi festivities are something I have wanted to attend for years. Every year I forget that they are coming up, and then read that they happened without me and get totally jeal’ slash sad. So, the holiday is a celebration of good over evil. They do it the day after the first full moon in spring, and it’s a way to ring in the new season. They throw colored powder all over you and children carry around squirt guns and spray bottles full of colored liquid. Amanda Blair and I went ready to get messy, hooray!

At first we were like “give us some color!”

we got a little yellow and a little pink.

and then we were all “no more color!!!” green, blue, purple, white, red, yellow, pink…We were covered. We were having so much fun dancing around to the fun Bali music and being silly, but we kind of started getting attacked by groups of men who wanted to smear colored powder all over our bodies (boobs and butts) so we agreed to book it out of there for some lunch.

It was so fun to observe some culture and make a mess. Next year I’m going to bring Jake or my dad to protect me and AB.

Do you and your kids have inside jokes? Or little routines you do together? I have some with my little girl that I cherish deeply. We have some as a family that are precious too. But Jake and Pip have a few things together that are just not my business. Like Piper Jane loves to poke and inspect Jake’s watch. I imagine that if I came in to Blythedale with a watch on, Piper Jane would roll her eyes and tell me to get in line. Another thing they have, is Pip sitting on Jake’s shoulders. I tried to do it with her on Saturday, not really “getting” that it was between the two of them, and instead of Piper Jane smiling and grinning and giggling uncontrollably like she does on cue the second she sits on daddy’s shoulders, she looked down at the top of my head and started pulling my hair out, one by one.

I get it, the Pip on the shoulders belongs to Jake. Sor-freakin’-ry.

Do you really blame me? She looks so happy up there! I wanted in on that!

They are adorable together! She is such a dainty little thing up there. All proper and tall like.

Sometimes when I’m looking at Piptures, I think about what kind of career path Piper Jane could seek out. Like here….she could very well go into the business of a ceiling salesman. Or perhaps a Price is Right girl, or the next Vanna White. (pretend that there is a pair of lit up letters that were cut out of the photo.) Just try and tell me you wouldn’t like to buy a vowel from her!

Now this pipture below…I’m nervous about what kind of career this photo suggests. If I had to take a stab at it, I’d guess: creepy real estate broker, suspicious janitor, sneaky used car salesman or disney movie villain. You guys remember Jafar from Aladin? He makes this face for practically half of the movie.

Thanks for all the compliments on the new header! Jake yelled from the other room last night that he was going to work on a new header for the blob, and this was what he sent over about 5 minutes later.

Yeah, I said sent, because I was looking at the tv and I did not feel like walking all the way accross my little apartment to go into the office for something he could just email me. Because that is like 20 feet of walking right in the middle of the final rose ceremony.

Yep, I watched the Bachelor finale. I didn’t watch a single episode of the season until the week before the women’s tell all. I watched three whole episodes and each minute I felt nonstop hot embarrassment run through my face-cheeks. That show is embarrassing y’all! The music, the helicopters, the red rose ceremonies….I felt like a little kid watching a kissing scene with my parents in the room!

Anyway, Emily is way too good for that guy. I’m not really convinced that he is such a good guy at all to be honest. I don’t think they’ll last very long at all, and I hope they don’t, because she seems like a lovely person. And yeah, I think he might secretly be a huge jerk when he doesn’t have to fake it on tv.

On Friday night I got dressed, did my hair and went out.

My friend, Jen, is a big shot lighting designer on Broadway, and is currently working on Ghetto Klown. I had to see it, because I wanted to see her at work of course, and also because I love John Leguizamo. You see, Romeo and Juliet is one of my all time favorite movies, and he is my second favorite Capulet, next to Juliet.

It was the first one man show I’ve ever seen, and I have to say that I was completely impressed. He did some voices, some dancing and some habla en espanol..it was so funny and sweet and entertaining. And don’t even get me started on the lighting.
(seriously, jen’s job is really hard. i could tell. i sat next to her, and she had a little headset on and a giant computer moniter with a million numbers and weird shapes like squares on it.)

After the show, Jen showed me the backstage area and to my surprise while I was following her around she out of nowhere said “Reagan, this is John”. I looked up and shockinly it was THE John. I was like “oh hey, I’m Reagan.”. That is what I said out loud, but the vibe I gave off after being so caught off guard was more like “oh hey, I’m Reagan and I’m the absolute most awkward person on the planet. Want proof? Watch me sit here and stare at your face for a few minutes.”. We stood there looking at each other awkwardly for about 20 seconds, then he asked me if I was an actress, and I said “no, I’m a hairstylist.”. Then we looked at eachother for a few more painful seconds and he said “well, um, what are you girls up to tonight? Going out?”. We were like “yeah, for a tea.”. Coughing, breathing, shifting body weight….

Why was I so weird and shy? I didn’t say anything. I just stood there all mutey, which I guess is better than saying “hey, I thought you were a total badass when you played Tybalt with your metal heeled boots and your sword gun and your little curl and that time when you say in that raspy voice ‘Peace, I hate the word’.”. I’m so embarrassed. Hopefully I can talk to him again and make up for my weirdness. Also, let me explain right now that I am completely to blame for all of the weirdness, he did more than his share to save the situation, haha.

It was a fun night and I loved the show. As always, I have a ball with Jen and I’m glad she still likes me even though I probably embarrassed her to smitherenes. Hooray slash pheew.

ps let’s talk about the halo braid. i’m not sure i’ll be doing a tutorial, because it is really actually quite hard (fact: i just typed “haird”) to do. i might though, because my hair was filthy when i put it up in this thing and i managed to get three more days out of it. which was both wonderful and incredibly disgusting at the same time.

When Piper Jane came out a tiny blondie, I was really proud. I was sad, because dark hair is sexy (not that I wanted my newborn to be sexy), but there was a part of me that was excited to have a little me around to get into trouble with. I imagined myself being one of those cool moms who’s always up to some shananigans with her daughter…you know, those shenanigans where people say things like “You girls…always up to something with your blond hair and….um yeah, well you girls with your blond hair.” (I couldn’t think of anything else remarkable that would be with us during our shenanigans).

Anyway, Pip is a blondie, and I’m super proud.

Here are some photos of us being blondies together (me being more of an “ish” blond at the moment). But I did her hair sort of like mine because remember I think it’s cool to be matchy with your kids..and because I wore my hair in this braid halo from Friday-Sunday night.

More to come. Because Jake and Piper Jane had some sweet moments too (she left me for him several times. Jeal.).

This chai was pretty and tasty. I definitely have my new favorite cafe in all of NYC, it’s Cafe Angelique. I love that place.

This flashlight saved me from the scary darkness this morning when I had to move the car at a quarter to 6. (Jake get’s me little presents when he goes into hardware stores/auto part stores. This flashlight was one of them, and I’m surprised at how much I use it!)

This bridge is laughing at me because it’s been an awfully long time since I’ve run across it.

*This old 24 year old body of mine is what I want back right now. (Piper Jane was a mere 8 months old when this pic was taken. I’m jeal’ that it was so much easier back then.)

I guess I might be out of pictures to help illustrate my story..humph.

Jake and I are going to Spain and France in May! We might go to one other close by country for a quick dip. I think probably not Italy, since I want to go there for it’s own vacation, but what do you think would be easy to get to and pretty to see? We have both never been to Europe. This trip has been on our (mostly my) to do list for years and it is just finally going to work out. I can’t wait.

I have a dentist appointment this morning. I haven’t been to the dentist in years. A lot of years, not just a couple. I’m so ashamed that I put it off even longer out of overwhelming shame. If I have a cavity I’ll freak because I’ve never had one in my life! (fact, I literally have no idea what a cavity even is)
