In 5 years there hasn’t been a dull (good dull and bad dull) moment, and I’m proud that we still love each other so much. Even though there is some seriously hard crap going on all the time it seems like. In fact, just when I feel like I’m going to flip over a table because I stepped in dog poop or because our apt got burgled or because I’m sad about pip, or because I have a suspicious freckle or my identity got stolen or I’m lost driving in Queens…Jake sends me a stupid youtube video, or a photo of a baby chicken running, or maybe he does my taxes or shampoos my hair (figuratively), or it could be that he just laughs at the dumb stuff I say. Sometimes I can’t believe that there is just this guy who understands me so well, adores my quirks, forgives me of my faults, and he’s even hot.

WTF, right?

Anyway, I’m not trying to get all bragsville..I’m just really proud of 5 years. BTW being married for 5 years makes me sound like I’m at least 40 in NYC.

Well, I better go! That Jake’s not going to snuggle himself!

We first did Italian for dinner, I started out with Goat Cheese salad, Jake had Ministrone soup, then for our entres, I had pasta with vodka sauce, and Jake had veal. It was delicious. I kept trying to think of what we should do for part two of our date, and even though I’ve been dying to see Blue Valentine, I decided that a movie about a rocky marriage wouldn’t be right for the occasion.

Then it hit me-we’ll karaoke.

There are a lot of karaoke spots in New York (we go to Korea Town), where you rent out a room, and do it all privately. Like when they’re all wearing wigs and doing karaoke on “lost in translation”. I called and made a reservation at the place we used to go to for Karaoke club before Col and Aubrey moved, which is called Duet 35. I made a reservation for 2 hours.

We nearly had to be dragged out of there. We sang everything in the book. We karaoke’d from 9pm-2am, just the two of us.

All day yesterday we sent each other texts to say how much fun we had. It was the best time. If you are in NYC, you have to try out one of these Karaoke spots! They are a Ball!

Jake jokes to me (maybe it’s not a joke) that the moment he fell in love with me, was when I randomly said in conversation that I had been saving up for a vespa. I had wanted one for a long time, and decided to buy one when I moved to NY. Jake had a motorcycle and I think the idea of zipping around together got him very randy. haha. He’ll probably make me change that. I should probable not post things that I think he’ll make me change, but these are the reasons our marriage is interesting. I push every limit, and Jake nicely brings me back to what’s apropriate for a 26 year old mother slash wife.

Anyway, some of my most fond memories with Jake are of us zipping around on these babies. My vespa was the first thing I had ever saved up for and bought all by myself, and weirdly it was kind of a turning point for me in becoming more responsible. I miss Penelope, or “Penny” as I called her. She lives in Birmingham, Alabama with a couple of lesbians now. I like to think she’s very happy there.

I wish I had more pictures of my life with Penny. It just so happens that the only picture I have of her is the one above, and I’m practically wearing pajamas. I was just barely 21 in that picture. A wee baby, I was!

I want another vespa, really hard. But I want it in mint green or robin’s egg blue. And I think I’ll wear a bright scarf around my neck. Take that pajama wearing picture!

I’m proving with this picture below (that Jake took) that it is indeed cool enough for a jacket. I mean, it probably isn’t, I think I was pushing it, but it is just so nice to leave the house in something other than your nudes.

This jacket was 17 dollars at Gap. Jake and I are currently arguing that I should have “checked with him” before buying it, but I say that 17 dollars is so free that it would have been a waste and insult to both of our lives to bother with such a “check”. Whose with me? I have an idea, let’s yell! WHOSE WITH ME??

whats so important about this post, is that jake blogged the other day about it, and i was happy to know that he likes it too! he has never said anything to me about it, so i had no idea. i’m relieved because i just thought it was another one of my many ways of indulging. woohoo! do what you want….smell what you want…take a chance on life today and buy some flo-wers, woohoo.

i just wrote that song. i’ve been reading too many francis books.

i’m getting a cold. i am seriously over-dosing on vitamin c because this is an unwelcomed cold. i like getting sick every once in a while because then i get to take a break from life and relax and watch movies and shop online and get smothered by jake. but i dont want to feel bad when this weather is so awesome.

we started out at the brooklyn flea market. it’s the best in nyc.
they have it in this old bank during the cold winter, however, it felt as cold inside as it did outside. we kept our gloves/coats/scarves on.

sifting through raggedy old coats. i am cool with the overpriced vintage clothes on ebay/etsy, because it is a huge adventure to find something pretty and in good condition.

in the basement vault, there are a bunch of local food vendors. we had gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches and soup. i love sandwiches and soup.

i only bought a gift for a friend, but my favorite thing about fleas are just browsing the old stuff. i love to see things that i had growing up. jake and i showed each other rotary phones, pencil sharpeners, chairs, lunchboxes, clothes and dishes the we had in our childhood homes. it’s fun to remember.

then we went to the ballet. are you curious why i still don’t do my hair even when i’m doing something fancy? it’s because i only like doing other people’s hair. like my client who plays the flute for the NYC ballet. he got us amazing tickets to sleeping beauty. we were front row so i got to see down in the orchestra pit. it was fun to watch him wail on the flute during his solos. pretty talented…

the lincoln center theaters are so beautiful. i love my birthday date.

sleeping beauty was so great! it was pretty cool being so close that we could hear their point shoes shuffling about the stage. during the performance i realized that i weigh more than everyone on the stage. combined. haha.

i guess 26 wont be so bad. i’m looking forward to another great year with my baby and my baby’s daddy. hooray!

also, i was asked to be the maid of honor at an upcoming (2011)best friend’s wedding. i have never been so excited in my whole life. whole. life.

I got spoiled for Christmas, but I think I deserved it. I have been asking for a Helen Ficalora charm necklace for over a year, HOORAY!!! Jake even got me two charms. A “P” for Piper and a “J” for Jake! Yay!
